NAME OF POSITION: BOYS’/GIRLS’ DIVING COACH
PRIMARY FUNCTION: To teach and direct various DIVING skills and activities as directed by the head swimming coach, as well as attending all meets.
THIS POSITION IS DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE TO: West Valley High School Athletic Director, Principal and Head SWIM/DIVE Coach.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Duties: Attend coaches meetings, practice session, matches as assigned. Compile daily workouts appropriate for a wide range of diving levels. Assist divers in their progression through the different skill levels. Attend meets, supervise and motivate swimmers, direct warm-up exercises, evaluate divers’ performances and offer positive suggestions for improvement. Maintain attendance rolls and reports. Attend to the emotional and mental well being of team members. Build self-esteem and confidence of team members and use good judgment in determining expectations and level of physical strain placed on team members. Ensure the safety of swim team members. Develop safety rules and guidelines and monitors swimmers in the locker room and pool area to prevent “horse play.” Assist the head swim/dive coach in generating, organizing, posting, and distributing all meet entry forms for dive team members and coaches and submitting meet entries. Assist in articulating and enforcing WVSD and WIAA rules/regulations for athletes. Properly supervise school equipment and facilities usage. Assist the head coach in keeping accurate statistics and disseminate to appropriate coaches/league/media sources. Teach and model the highest standards of conduct and sportsmanship during practices and contests. Work with the head coach to develop a budget for basic equipment (ASB Budget) and for capital needs (Levy/General Budget). Assist the head coach in promoting the entire interscholastic program of the school and direct his/her program in harmony with the total school program. Be thoroughly acquainted with the contest rules and ensure that your athletes are aware of them as well. Maintain WIAA coaching standards and work toward becoming a master coach. Project a positive and professional image to parents and the public.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Credentials: Current First Aid/CPR card required, Red Cross Safety Training or US. Diving Safety Certification required, good driving record.
Education: 4-year degree preferred.
Experience: Previous DIVING experience at the high school/college level preferred
Previous DIVING and/or gymnastics coaching experience in school or community programs
required

SALARY: Salary depends on experience, plus post season stipend for this position. |
