JOB OPENING: ASSISTANT FOOTBALL COACH - C SQUAD  

NAME OF POSITION:  ASSISTANT HS FOOTBALL COACH - C SQUAD

 

PRIMARY FUNCTION: To serve as an Assistant Coach of the West Valley HS Football Program

 

THIS POSITION IS DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE TO:  West Valley High School Athletic Director and Principal, Head Football Coach.

 

TIME:

Dates Activity Starts and Finishes (approximate): Mid August - Early November (Fall Sports Season), plus all November/early December if post-season qualified.

Weeks per season/year: 12-16

Total number of days required with students: 72-96

Number of hours per week with students: 18-27

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Number of students under your supervision: 15-30 plus position specific coaching input with 7th/8th grade programs

Equipment Care, Maintenance and Inventory:  Yes

Duties:  Attend coaches meetings, practice session, games as scheduled. Organize and conduct practices as a position and special teams coach, prepare for planned schemes for games.  Assist the varsity coach and be willing to be mentored by him/her.  Assist and mentor other offensive/defensive position coaches in grades 9-12, and grades 8-9 when possible.  Assist in articulating and enforcing WVSD and WIAA rules/regulations for athletes.  Properly supervise school equipment and facilities usage.  Help varsity coach to keep accurate statistics and disseminate to appropriate coaches/league/media sources.  Teach and model the highest standards of conduct and sportsmanship during practices and contests.  Assist in developing a budget for basic equipment (ASB Budget) and for capital needs (Levy/General Budget).  Promote the entire interscholastic program of the school and direct the program in harmony with the total school program.  Be thoroughly acquainted with the contest rules and ensure that your athletes are aware of them as well.  Maintain WIAA coaching standards by attending yearly clinics. Emphasize safety precautions, and be aware of the best training and injury procedures. Attend meetings as called by the athletic/activities director. The pre- and post-season (evaluation) meetings are required as part of the coaching contract. Perform other duties as assigned by the principal/ designee.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Credentials:           Washington State Teaching Credentials Preferred.  Current First Aid/CPR card   

required.  Good driving record required.

Education:              4-year degree preferred.

Experience:            Previous football playing experience at the high school level required/college preferred.  Previous varsity high school assistant or head coaching experience with documentation of success both on and off the field.  Ability to teach/train other assistant coaches, at all levels, on those positions and core philosophies.    

 

Personal Qualities:  The ability to work with student/athletes and their parents in a professional manner is a must.  The successful candidate will work to instill the highest desirable ideals of character/sportsmanship and ensure that the welfare of each student/athlete is always held in the highest regard.  He/she should have the ability to be an independent, critical thinker as well as a team player. The candidate will have a strong, competitive spirit with the ability to join a team with a shared vision of sustained success both on and off the field.  The ability to plan practices, events, and organize all the necessary materials and persons to carry out the sport/activity is highly valued, including the use of technology as a tool for scouting, game preparation, etc.  The ability to utilize and communicate with email, word processing, is a must.  The successful candidate must be able to consistently meet scheduled responsibilities for practice, coaching preparation, competition, and related activities.

 

SALARY
Base salary depends on experience, with an additional 1% per day additional stipend for post-season play.  Salary is paid at end of November for fall sports.  All new employees must complete fingerprinting and drug screening process before employment. The cost to the employee is approximately $100.00.
