Reading and Math Intervention Teacher


DEFINITION

Under general supervision of the building principal, RTI Coach and Director of Federal Programs, teach groups of students in a reading lab setting and/or in the classroom and assist in facilitating and coordinating the implementation of the K-12 reading intervention program.  


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Reading and Math Intervention Teacher)

* Teach reading and math intervention classes using approved district intervention materials.
* Demonstrate best teaching practices for reading and math intervention including direct instruction and differentiation
* Use technology to administer diagnostic assessment program
* Use electronic assessment such as iReady Reading and Math and written materials such as DIBELS Next, DDS, and REWARDS to progress monitor
* Use technology to generate, organize and analyze electronic student data such as Homeroom, spreadsheets, ELPA21 reports, and iReady Diagnostic Reports for Reading and Math.

* Scaffold instruction for ELL students on a daily basis.
* Supervise para-educators who may be assigned to classroom .
* Work cooperatively with district Literacy, Math, and ELL Coaches and classroom teachers.
* Confer regularly with teachers and parents regarding student’s progress.
* Planning and conduct parent involvement activities
* Complete all reports and records required by building principal and State and Federal Program Director.
* Coordinate intervention services with classroom teachers.


QUALIFICATIONS

* Possess valid WA teaching credential
* Minimum five years classroom experience
* Outstanding facilitation skills
* Strong interpersonal skills (communication, problem solving, conflict management, collaboration)
* Strong organizational skills
* Expertise and knowledge of appropriate instructional methodologies
* Demonstrated ability to work positively and cooperatively with administration, staff parents, and community
* Specific experience/training in Reading and Math Intervention required such as First Steps in Mathematics, Origo, Reading Mastery, REWARDS, and iReady Reading and Math.
* Special Training (Reading Endorsement, Literacy/Reading MA) preferred
* Strong background knowledge of the CCSS in ELA and Math

* Strong background knowledge in Language Acquisition (strategies such as Project GLAD and SIOP).
* Excellent technology skills and familiarity with programs that assist students in reading and math as well as assessment systems, data collection and record keeping
