Marching Band Color Guard Caption Head

Salary - $714.28 (fall season - 75 hours – Mid August – October 31)
Duties:
Serve as the primary staff member for the student color guard (flag ensemble)
Attend Summer Marching Band Camp (mid – August)
Attend Wednesday afternoon color guard sectional rehearsals 2:45 – 4:00
Learn all color guard choreography and instruct the student color guard with a high level of competence and skill
Monitor progress of the color guard and adapt instruction and content as necessary to achieve a high level of performance for the ensemble and the individual members alike.
Assist the director with uniform sizing and ordering uniforms and equipment
Assist the director with maintaining adequate teaching pacing of the color guard relative to the October competition season
Assess competition judge’s written and oral critiques in order to further develop the color guard’s visual and performance technique and future skill development
Assist the director in monitoring progress of the color guard in terms of flag skill techniques, visual ensemble (marching) skills, and future skill development
Work with the director to develop a schedule in coordination with the color guard assistant instructor
Attend all marching band rehearsals
Attend home football games (5-6 home games per season)
Attend all marching competitions as scheduled by the director
Attend all fall parade performances
Attend any additional marching band rehearsals
Assist the director with student supervision and instructional duties at rehearsals and performances
Serve as a district representative and supervisor on district transportation to away events (Parades and competitions)
Required experience and expectations:
2-3 years experience in a Drum and Bugle Corps, college marching band, or related experience
Prior experience in a leadership position with a collegiate marching band, Drum Corps, or related experience
Demonstrated ability to teach and lead high school students
Specific expertise in area of color guard instruction for high school students
Experience working in a collaborative teaching environment
Ability to learn choreography quickly and efficiently and to teach / adapt for high school students
Experience writing / creating color guard choreography
Respectful / professional demeanor with students and marching band staff
